Congress Candidates list UP: Congress has prepared the list of candidates for 17 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. The final approval on this has also been given in the CEC meeting held in Delhi. The list of candidates may be released soon.
If Congress sources are to be believed, a decision has been taken to field State Congress President Ajay Rai from Varanasi, which is considered the most high profile in the country. Ajay Rai will contest elections here against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Danish Ali, who left Bahujan Samaj Party and joined Congress on Wednesday, has been made the candidate from Amroha seat. Danish was elected MP in 2019 on BSP symbol.
Congress is contesting elections in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with Samajwadi Party. Congress got 17 Lok Sabha seats in the agreement. There is talk of finalizing names on eight of these seats. Among these, the names of Akhilesh Pratap Singh from Deoria, Ajay Rai from Varanasi against Prime Minister Modi, Danish Ali from Amroha and Imran Masood from Saharanpur are being discussed.
BJP fielded candidates on 51 seats, SP on 49 seats.
Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats. Of these, BJP has declared candidates for 51 seats and SP for 49 seats. Prime Minister Modi is contesting from Varanasi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow. Whereas, SP has made the MLA candidate from Lucknow against Rajnath.
Suspense on Rae Bareli-Amethi
There is suspense over who will contest the elections from Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh, considered the stronghold of Congress. The State Congress Committee had suggested the names of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, but the Central Election Committee has decided to discuss these seats later. Last time Rahul Gandhi had lost the election from Amethi. This time he has contested the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad, Kerala.
