This student was a resident of Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh. This is the 27th case of suicide in Kota this year.

Police gave information on the incident

CI Meena of Rajasthan Police said that the deceased has been identified as Tanveer Khan. He was preparing for NEET after passing 12th exam. He was doing self-study while living with his father and sister. After this he committed suicide this morning. Tanveer Khan’s body was taken to the hospital. After this the doctors handed over the body to the family members. His family members have also left for Maharajganj with the body.

Why are students committing suicide in Kota?

Every year thousands of children come to Kota, Rajasthan for coaching for engineering and medical entrance exams. Most of the students who have committed suicide belong to poor or lower middle class families. Coaching business is also quite big in Kota. Pictures of students who studied here and passed the entrance exam have been seen in advertisements. But those students who are not able to achieve success or are not able to bear the pressure of competition and expectations due to some reasons, their challenges become bigger and they are filled with disappointment. According to media reports, at present about 2.25 lakh students in Kota are preparing for NEET or JEE. These students live in 4 thousand hostels or five thousand registered PGs.

So far this year, around 27 students have committed suicide. Earlier in the year 2015, many such cases were seen. Gehlot government also had a meeting with coaching institutes and concerned officials recently. Besides, he had also constituted a committee regarding this issue, which will submit its report within 15 days.
