Kurukshetra: Heart-touching, unique handicrafts by artisans from different states have captivated the attention of tourists at the Saras and Handicrafts Fair to be held from December 7 on the holy banks of Brahmasarovar during the International Gita Mahotsav. After training from the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission, women settled down and made jute goods. The tourists who come to the festival are very fond of eco-friendly jute items which have become a source of employment for them.

In these folk dances, artists from Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir also attracted the tourists shopping at the Handicrafts and Saras Fair by presenting folk dances of their respective states. The movement of tourists and devotees from Kurukshetra and nearby towns began on Friday, the second day of the festival’s craft and saras fair. On the second day of the Handicrafts and Saras Fair, tourists made bulk purchases at the fair and enjoyed cultural programs. The melodious sounds of musical instruments of Dheru party artistes Dilbara Singh, Karamjit, Abhishek, Sube Singh, Satbir and Pappu easily attract tourists.

The price of these handbags has been set at just 50 to 150 rupees. However, Banarasi saris and suits were also brought especially for women. Artisan Khalikuljama decorated Banarasi handbags for daughters at stall number 64 of International Geeta Mahotsav-2023. He said that saris, suits, dupattas and dining table runners made of Banarasi fabric were brought especially for this festival. In this festival, handbags made of Banarasi fabric were brought for the first time and their prices were also set at just 50 to 150 rupees. The price of Banarasi sarees ranges from 800 to 4500 rupees and the price of suits is around 1250 rupees. At these prices, tourists can easily buy products made from Banarasi fabric. He said that many tourists come to this festival and like their products with great interest. Last year the festival also had good sales.
