Kurukshetra News: In order to increase farmers’ income and encourage high-yielding horticultural crops from traditional agriculture, the government gives special grants. Each farmer receives a 40 percent grant to set up a district-wide mushroom composting facility.

The District Horticultural Commissioner Dr. Satyanarayan said that the demand in the market is constantly increasing due to the beneficial benefits of mushrooms. There is a great demand for mushrooms in cities like Delhi, Gurugram, Jaipur, Chandigarh, etc. Due to farmers’ lack of cultivation knowledge, it is less available on the market. The Horticulture Department gives the farmer a subsidy of 8 lakh rupees ie 40 per cent for building a large plant of 20 lakh rupees. Apart from that, if a farmer wants to set up a small unit, the cost is around 30,000 rupees. A subsidy of 50 percent is granted for the general category and 85 percent for the planned category.

The farmers of the district can make good profits in the market by taking over the crops as part of the crop diversification. Farmers willing to take advantage of the grant program can apply online at the Hortnet.gov.in portal. The grant amount will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. The mushroom season starts in August, but by registering, the farmer can start preparing now.
