Cyber thugs post picture of your acquaintance on WhatsApp, cyber criminals send you message that he/she is in an important meeting and needs some money. Since he can’t speak in the meeting, just transfer money to his account. The thugs also say that this number belongs to them too. Since the profile photo shows a picture of your acquaintance, you quickly invest money.

On the other hand, in the case of financial or online fraud, call 1930 and file your complaint. Incidentally, submit your report to the cybercrime station or the cyber-helpdesk set up in your respective police station.

How does scam happen with WhatsApp:

  • If someone asks you for money by posting a profile photo of your friend, then you should be alert immediately because no one will message you for help in times of crisis.
  • There are many security systems in WhatsApp settings, read them all carefully and implement all these settings in your WhatsApp app.
  • Keep your profile photo safe on WhatsApp so no one can steal it or only people on your phone list can see your profile photo.
  • If your WhatsApp account has been hacked, you need to reset your WhatsApp immediately. After that, you need to log in to WhatsApp again like before. After that, OTP will come on your account and the account hacked by the criminal will be logged out. You must do this as soon as possible. First of all, you have to keep in mind that WhatsApp will not send OTP without your permission. If such an OTP comes, you should be alert.
  • Scammers can only rob you by getting close to you on WhatsApp. If someone close to you asks for help, then call them first and don’t give out any OTP information. Apart from that, you should also enable the Two-Factor Authentication option in WhatsApp for increased security. What happens in such a situation that hackers or anyone needs code other than OTP before running your WhatsApp on other device.
