Karnal News: President Draupadi Murmu presented diplomas and gold medals to 544 students at the 19th Convocation of the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal. He congratulated the students and wished them all the best and said that you are all moving towards a new chapter in your life, so you should always try to learn new things and work for the welfare of the people.

The President urged students to contribute significantly to the nation’s progress and become entrepreneurs while finding employment in the dairy industry. There are immense growth opportunities in this space and you should take advantage of these opportunities.

India contributes about 22 percent to global milk production

President Murmu said India is the largest milk producing country in the world. India accounts for around 22 percent of global milk production. The dairy sector contributes about 5 percent to the country’s GDP and provides 8 million families with direct and indirect dairy industry supplies.

More than 70 percent participation of women in the dairy sector

The President said that girl power plays an important role in managing the dairy industry. More than 70 percent of those employed in the dairy sector are women. Fortunately, today more than a third of diploma winners and 50 percent of gold medal winners are girls. The dairy sector is of particular importance when it comes to empowering women and bringing about changes in their social and economic status. To ensure women have equal rights and opportunities to take up leadership positions, we need to provide more opportunities for women’s education and skills development.
