Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has announced the new Congress Party Working Committee. The High Command made the appointments in the new CWC by balancing the leaders of Haryana.
Rajya Sabha MP and opposition leader Deepender Hooda, son of the former CM, was accepted as a local guest in the CWC, while Hooda faction rival Randeep Surjewala and former Union Minister and former State President Selja were accepted as members of the CWC. Selja, who was President of the Haryana Congress, currently heads Chhattisgarh, while Randeep Surjewala is the Rajya Sabha MP for the party and is considered one of the leaders closest to the high command. The High Command has not given a place in the CWC to Kiran Chowdhary, who comes from the family of former Prime Minister and late Chowdhary Bansilal. Kiran Chowdhary is the Congressman from Bhiwani’s Tosham seat and Hooda leads the opposition and joins Surjewala-Sailja in the triumvirate. The central leadership knows that there is factionalism in the Haryana Congress. This is the reason why the party has not been able to organize itself for more than nine years. One group is believed to be former CM Bhupendra Hooda.
While Randeep Surjewala, Selja and Kiran Chowdhary belonged to three groups, today all three leaders are on one platform against Hooda. With this in mind, the central leadership inducted Deepender from the Hooda faction and Randeep and Selja from SRK into the CWC. After Mallikarjun Kharge was elected Congress President in October 2022, the 23-member CWC was dissolved and a 47-member steering committee formed in its place. The CWC is the supreme executive body within the Congress party. It was established in December 1920 during the Congress session in Nagpur. Final authority to interpret and implement the Congress party constitution rests with the Congress Working Committee.
