Brokers closed Charkhi Dadri’s Anajmandi gate: Opposition to implementation of GST on mustard purchase, danger looms on crop purchase.

Charkhi Dadri: There is constant resentment among commission agents over paying 5 per cent GST on purchase of mustard. On the one hand, the commission agents stopped purchasing in protest against the GST, but on the other hand, the commission agents also stopped the inflows on Wednesday by locking the market gate and expressed their anger by protesting near the gate. The brokers issued a strong warning against making purchases until their demands were met, putting the purchase of wheat and mustard at risk.

5 percent GST is paid by middlemen

It is noteworthy that the procurement agency Hafed charges five per cent GST from the commission agents on purchase of mustard, while the commission agents in Dadri district constantly oppose it. For this reason, the commission agents have been refraining from purchasing since April 9th. On Wednesday, the market committee headed by Charkhi Dadri Arhtiya Association chief Ramkumar Ritolia reached the office. Where the officials concerned stated in clear terms that they were purely commission agents and received only 1.25 percent commission, hence they were not in a position to pay GST at all and would not make any purchase. It was very hot there at that time.

Angry brokers locked the market gate

After a conversation with the officials, there was dissatisfaction among the commission agents and they locked the market gate. Pradhan Ramkumar Ritolia said that they will not make purchases and will go on an indefinite strike until their demands are not met. They closed the gate and at the same time warned not to let anyone in. Meanwhile, Hanuman Sharma, head of Badhra grain market, said that the entire association is united and will not buy from Badhra too. The government should give them full rights. If they receive a commission of 2.5 percent, they also pay GST but work as assistants of HAFED and only receive a commission of 1.25 percent.
