Jhajjar: Farmers prepare to sow wheat in their fields. In such a situation, farmers of the city stand in long queues in front of the seed sales center to buy wheat at government rates. There is a struggle among farmers to purchase wheat seeds. Sales center staff are busy distributing seeds to farmers even after the stipulated deadline.
Various varieties of wheat are available at the sales center including 303, 222, 187 and 3086. Even on Tuesday, the seeds were distributed to farmers till late evening. Farmer Yogesh, a resident of Talav village, said he has been standing in queue to buy wheat seeds for two days. When it was his turn on Monday, the seeds were gone. It is impossible to say whether it will be available today. He said that he came to buy three bags. Bijendra Birdhana said that he got wheat seeds today after four days of hard work. Mandeep of Giravad said that he needed thirty sacks of wheat seeds which he managed to procure today with great difficulty.
Efforts are being made to provide seeds to farmers
Haryana Seed Development Corporation in-charge Rakesh said that 2,600 quintals of seeds of different varieties of wheat had reached him. They continually strive to provide seeds to farmers. So far, 2,300 quintals of wheat seeds have been sold. The greatest demand is for wheat seeds of the 303 variety. After that, there is demand for 3086. In order to ensure easy availability of seeds for farmers, the employees are busy distributing seeds until late in the evening.
