RGCI celebrated World Hospice and Palliative Care Day with ‘Hope 2023’, experts gave advice to cancer patients

New Delhi:Hope 2023 was organized on the occasion of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute (RGCI), Rohini, New Delhi. This program was organized by the Pain and Palliative Care Department. Through this, awareness was created among people about pain and palliative care by discussing the mental suffering of cancer patients.

In fact, keeping in mind the theme of ‘Compassionate Communities’, people from different sections including active members of the society, Abha workers, social workers, volunteers were invited during the program. During this time the patients, their family members, doctors and nurses were also present. Dr. Kinshuki Jain, head of the Pain and Palliative Care Department, expressed concern over mental pain not being given adequate attention during cancer treatment. Along with this, he stressed on paying attention in this direction. During the program, many experts made the people present in the program aware. Prashant Mukund Das of ISKCON, who was present as a special guest, mentioned many important points to relieve mental pain.

150 patients shared their experiences

Dr. Vaishali Jamre mentioned the need for pain, palliation and rehabilitation during the treatment of breast cancer and Dr. Himanshu Rohela mentioned the need for orthopedic cancer. During this, home care services provided through various NGOs and private agencies were also discussed. During this program, about 150 patients and their families got an opportunity to share their personal experiences. This spread a feeling of sympathy and solidarity among the people. Attendees appreciated the interactive sessions during the program and the overall understanding of broad aspects of patient care.

Dr. Kinshuki Jain said that Hope 2023 is becoming successful.

Dr. Kinshuki Jain said, ‘The success of Hope 2023 clearly shows how important such efforts are to promote sensitivity and integrated approach in patient care. During patient care, one should think about every aspect related to the patient and move forward while experiencing their pain with full sensitivity.
