Monsoon Weather Update: Monsoon rains are lashing most of the states these days. Monsoon has been very kind especially in the areas of Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain in Mumbai, while there is a possibility of rain in Delhi for the next 5 days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the monsoon arrived in Delhi and Mumbai earlier this week. It is likely to cover the remaining parts of the country including Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab in the next two days. The weather department said that the national capital would witness a cloudy sky with light to moderate rain likely over the next five days. Parts of the national capital received heavy rain on Thursday, bringing the minimum temperature down to 23.8 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season’s average. It rained in many areas of the capital Delhi on Friday morning as well. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature settled at 34.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in Delhi and its surrounding areas.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand. IMD has forecast light to moderate rains over Kerala and adjoining districts of neighboring states today. Earlier, the IMD had said that the monsoon has now covered most parts of the country. Today there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar. IMD Mumbai said, moderate to intense rainfall very likely at isolated places over Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts during next 3-4 hours. The flood situation in Assam remains grim, with thousands of people still affected. Around 43,000 people are still in flood-affected areas across Assam. Farmers have suffered huge losses. Several villages across the state are submerged.

Badrinath National Highway closed after landslide

The Badrinath National Highway was blocked on Thursday after a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, leaving over 10,000 pilgrims stranded for hours. The landslide occurred near Chhinka around 9:50 am and the debris was not removed till late evening. Officials said that the stranded pilgrims also included those who were going to Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib. The landslide affected a 100-metre stretch of the highway, causing heavy traffic jam. He said hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway.
