Earthquake in Delhi: Earthquake tremors occurred in Delhi-NCR on Chhoti Diwali. Its intensity has been measured at 2.6 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at 3:36 pm. According to the National Center for Seismology, its epicenter was 10 km below the earth’s surface in the northern district. However, no information about any kind of damage has been revealed so far. The earthquake has created an atmosphere of fear among the people in the national capital.
Tremors felt before
Last week, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal and tremors were felt across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). The tremors came days after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, killing 153 people and injuring 160 in the worst earthquake since 2015. Earlier, the epicenter of the earthquake that occurred on November 3 was at a depth of ten kilometers in Nepal. When buildings shook due to the earthquake, citizens came out of their homes in Delhi-NCR. On November 7, three earthquakes of magnitude greater than 4 struck Jajarkot in western Nepal, injuring 16 people. According to media reports, officials while giving information said that ten people were injured in Rukum West and six others were injured in Jajarkot.

Experts have issued a warning about the possibility of a major earthquake in the national capital. Given the densely populated urban area, aging infrastructure and inadequate building standards in parts of Delhi, the consequences of such an incident could be severe. Delhi’s dense and rapidly growing urban environment poses a complex challenge to disaster preparedness. In the event of a major earthquake, the city’s infrastructure, housing and transportation networks may be seriously affected.
