Delhi Mayor Election 2023:The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will elect a new mayor and deputy mayor for the current financial year between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The mayor’s post will see a direct fight between Shaili Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party and Shikha Rai of the BJP.

According to the information received, the process of election for Mayor and Deputy Mayor will start from 11 am at the Delhi Corporation Secretariat Civic Center. There are a total of 274 votes in the election. In the MCD elections held in December last year, AAP had emerged victorious with 134 wards out of a total of 250. AAP is the ruling party in the MCD and has expressed confidence that its candidates are set to win. Like the last time in February, it is expected to be uproar during the mayoral election at the civic center, the headquarters of the municipal corporation. The term of the House ended on March 31. Explain that the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957 has a provision to hold fresh elections for the post of Mayor in April at the beginning of the financial year. One MLA of BJP and 13 MLAs of AAP will also vote in the election of mayor and deputy mayor.

In the last mayoral election, AAP’s Shaili Oberoi won by 34 votes and became the first mayor of the reunified MCD on February 22. This time he is up against BJP leader Shikha Rai, who is a councilor from Greater Kailash-1 ward. Oberoi is a former visiting assistant professor at Delhi University and a first-time corporator. He contested from East Patel Nagar, home constituency of former Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta and defeated candidate Deepali Kumar by 269 votes. There will be a contest for the post of deputy mayor between AAP’s Ale Mohammad and Ward No. 249 councilor Soni Pandey. Ale had defeated BJP candidate Kamal Bagdi by a margin of 31 votes to become the deputy mayor in February.
