In fact, the woman was murdered by her daughter-in-law by stabbing her several times with a frying pan. The police have now arrested the accused daughter-in-law Sharmishtha Som by registering a case of murder in the case. During interrogation, the woman told that she did not want to take care of her elderly mother-in-law. She wanted to send him to an old age home, but the son was not ready for it.

During interrogation to the police, the deceased’s son Surjit Som, resident of Flat No. 116, Khasra no. 322, Swastik Residency, Neb Sarai stated that he has been living at this address since 2014. He was married to Sharmistha Som 21 years back. He has a daughter. He is 16 years old. The family is originally from Kolkata, West Bengal. Surjeet’s mother was living alone in Kolkata till March 2022. That mother was brought to Delhi for care. He kept his mother in a rented 1 BHK flat just opposite to his flat.

At the same time, on receiving the PCR call, the police team reached the spot i.e. flat number C-114, where Hashi Som’s wife Gopal Chandra Som was found lying in the kitchen. There were multiple injury marks on his face and scalp. Son Surjit Som told that his mother was suffering from arthritis for a long time and she also had difficulty in walking. She could not walk without a stick or support. Apart from this, he told that in October 2022, his mother had fallen in the washroom, because the bathroom of his flat was at a height and his mother was having difficulty in using the bathroom. So he had rented a flat nearby, where he had easy access to the bathroom and kitchen.

When the police interrogated Surjeet’s daughter, she told that her mother Sharmishtha and grandmother did not have a cordial relationship. His mother did not like his grandmother. Surjit had also confirmed this. On the day of incident only Sharmistha was present in her flat and the flat of the deceased was locked from outside. The keys of the flat of the deceased were lying inside the flat of Sharmistha. Later Surjit told that he had taken out the memory card of the table CCTV camera installed in the bedroom of the deceased before calling the police on the day of the incident. On seeing the CCTV footage obtained from the memory card, the police found that on the day of the incident i.e. May 28, around 10.30 am, his wife had entered the flat of the deceased with a frying pan in her hand. Apart from this, in the CCTV footage, the sound of several blows to the deceased and her crying was heard. Sharmishtha was also seen cleaning the frying pan with a cloth after committing the crime. In the PM report, 14 injury marks were found on the woman’s body. On the basis of interrogation, Surjit Som’s statement and CCTV footage and PM report, the police registered a case of murder and arrested the accused Sharmishtha on Monday.
