Delhi Congress New President: Delhi Congress got a new president, know on whom the party expressed confidence In view of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Arvinder Singh Lovely as the president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. Lovely will now take charge of the party in Delhi in place of Anil Chaudhary. According to a statement issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge KC Venugopal, the party appreciated the contribution of outgoing Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Anil Choudhary.
Political career of Arvinder Singh Lovely
Arvinder Singh Lovely has previously served as the Delhi Congress President and a minister in the Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi government. In 1998, he was elected as one of the youngest MLAs from the Gandhi Nagar Assembly Constituency. Lovely has been the former president of Delhi PCC. Along with this, he has also been elected MLA from Gandhi Nagar four times. Lovely contested against Gautam Gambhir in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but had to face a crushing defeat. Lovely quit the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in May 2017, but returned to the ‘old-fashioned party’ in 2018.
According to media reports, AAP and Congress are part of the India Alliance, a grouping of several major opposition parties. There is speculation that he may contest all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi on the seat-sharing formula finalized by the All India Alliance. However, neither of the two parties has officially said anything on the matter. Many issues can be discussed in the third meeting of the India Alliance today.
