Gurugram. Gurgaon police arrested 3 inter-state thugs of Iranian origin who were duping foreign nationals of foreign currency by posing as police officers. The accused used to check the bags of foreign nationals who had come for treatment in Delhi-Gurugram, suspecting drugs and passport/visa, and absconding with their dollars. The police produced the accused in the court, from where they were given on police remand for 4 days.

A citizen of Yemen had come with his wife to a hospital in Gurugram to get her treated. He stopped at Sector-39 of Gurugram. On January 15, he was walking along with his wife from the side road of Medanta Hospital towards Rajiv Chowk. Suddenly a car stopped near them. In which three youths sitting called themselves police officers and due to the possibility of drugs, they started checking the bags of the Yemeni citizen and his wife. The accused fled from the car taking his bag. In which there were 4300 US dollars. Yemen citizen and his wife had passport/visa and other documents. On the complaint of the victim, Sadar police station registered a case and started action.

ACP Crime Preetpal Singh said that while taking action in the case, the team of Jharsa police station in-charge SI Jaswant Singh arrested the three accused from Delhi. The accused were identified as Iran-origin Hossein Rezaiford, Marammad Hossain Pirfalak and Abdul Salam. The police produced the accused in the court, where they were taken on police remand for 4 days.

After coming to India, executed 3 incidents in Delhi and Gurugram

ACP Crime Preetpal Singh said that during interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that they had come to India about 5-6 months ago. He carried out similar incidents in Delhi and one in Gurugram. The accused used to take vehicles on rent and used to stop foreigners going on foot and check their bags by saying things like passport/visa or suspicion of drugs, etc. by pretending to be police officers. On finding foreign currency and cash kept in the bag, they would run away with their bag. They stopped 3 persons of Iraqi origin who were walking on the night of 4 February in Sector-32, Gurugram. Disguising himself as a police officer, on the pretext of checking passport/visa, absconded with $5,000 and passport/visa from him. At the same time, a similar incident was carried out in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj. The accused are being intensively interrogated for other incidents, other co-accused and recovery.
