More than two dozen people living in colonies of many police station areas including Pandari have lodged complaints that their mobiles were hacked.

According to cyber cell officials, popular business websites from which more and more people make online purchases. Customer data has been leaked from those websites. Fraudsters call the mobile number obtained from the leaked data and deceive the mobile holder about the arrival of a courier. In case the mobile holder does not receive the goods from the courier, he is asked to dial a number for cancellation and confirmation. On dialing the given number, fraudsters are diverting the number of the mobile holder, hacking it, installing its WhatsApp app in their mobile and using the photo of the mobile holder’s DP profile to make the victim a fraud.

This is how they cheat

According to cyber cell officials, fraudsters call the mobile holder and tell him that a courier has come in his name. When the mobile holder somehow says that he will not call a courier, then in the name of cancellation the fraudster asks the mobile holder to dial a 10 digit mobile number followed by star 401. When the mobile holder dials the number as per the instructions given by the fraudster, the call from his mobile gets diverted. Confirmation comes to transfer the mobile holder’s number to another number, during which one of the fraudster’s accomplices hacks the mobile by telling the mobile holder’s number.

Calling regarding courier arrival in bulk

Recently, various residents of Swarnabhoomi Colony had lodged complaints with the cyber cell that their mobiles had suddenly been hacked. When Cyber ​​Cell officers interrogated him, it came to light that someone from an unknown number informed them about the arrival of a courier. When told that courier was not called, they were asked to dial the number for cancellation. After that his mobile got hacked.

Fraud in the name of transferring treatment amount

Cyber ​​​​Cell officers have also received information that online fraudsters are duping people by mistakenly sending them screenshots of money transfer through edited UPI, pretending that it is the amount for treatment. The fraudster calls the mobile holder and says that he was transferring money for the treatment of someone he knows, but it has been transferred to his account by mistake. Edited screen shots of money transfer are sent as proof.
