This unique scheme of governance has brought a new dimension and change in the lives of the women of Jagriti Self Help Group. The women of village Raveli have got employment in the cow dung paint manufacturing unit located at Lakholi in the district and they have got an order for manufacturing cow dung paint worth Rs 22 lakh 67 thousand. Cow dung paint is being used for painting government buildings, schools and hostels.

The use of this natural paint will not only help in environmental protection, but also strengthen the rural economy. Along with this, local women of self-help groups are getting employment due to its construction in Gauthans. Due to which their income is also increasing. Under the guidance of Collector Doman Singh, natural paint made from cow dung is being manufactured by the women of Jagruti Self Help Group in the cow dung paint unit located in village Lakholi of Rajnandgaon. There are 10 female and 2 male members in this group.

Two thousand liters of paint made in two weeks

Mrs. Sanjana Sahu, a member of Jagruti Self Help Group, said that yellow, white, gray and maroon distemper and emulsion paint are manufactured from cow dung here. But at present only emulsion paint is being manufactured. Within two weeks of the establishment of this unit, more than 2 thousand liters of cow dung paint has been manufactured. Out of which 1 thousand 161 liters cow dung paint worth Rs 2 lakh 67 thousand has been sold. Along with this, we have received an order of more than 10 thousand liters of emulsion paint made from cow dung.

With the cooperation of the state government and district administration, we have got a good employment opportunity through cow dung paint unit. Due to which all the members of the group are very happy and for this they thanked the government and the district administration.

Government buildings will be painted

It may be noted that cow dung is being procured at the rate of Rs 200 per quintal in Gauthans under the Chhattisgarh government’s ambitious Godhan Nyaya Yojana. Apart from organic manure, this cow dung is also being used in making cow dung paint. As a result of manufacturing natural paint from cow dung, on the one hand locally available cow dung will be put to good use. At the same time, more and more youth, women and villagers will also get employment. Due to which they will also be financially empowered. With this income generating activity where the income of these women groups is increasing. On the other hand, emulsion and distemper paint is easily available at an affordable rate for government buildings and homes of common people.
