In this context, DFO Kumar Nishant said that the elephant lost its life due to its head coming in contact with the electric wire. We had informed CSPDCL about this problem some time ago.

Families affected by wild animals will get financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh, the Forest Department official said, adding that the matter of elephant death is serious in itself. Further action will be taken along with investigation of the matter under the Wildlife Protection Act. Problems related to elephant products have persisted in Korba district for more than two decades. Over the years, people as well as cattle have died in different forest councils, while property has also been damaged. In cases of death due to wild animals, the government is giving an assistance amount of Rs 6 lakh to the families. Whereas provisions have also been made for crop and other losses.
