Umesh Yadav/Korba- An elephant of about 20 years old died after coming in contact with 11 KV power line in Pangwa Kanjar Pahad area of Katghora forest division located in Korba, Chhattisgarh. A case has been registered in connection with Gajraj’s death. The Forest Department has taken action against the officials of the Electricity Department. A case has been registered under Section 9 and Section 39 of the Wild Life Protection Act 1972. Has not been named yet. The name will be added soon after establishing the crime.

The issue of elephant death in the forest area is now gaining momentum. A tusk elephant, which had been active there for a few days, died. An 11 KV power line of Chhattisgarh Electricity Distribution Company passes through this area. Where is it going that there was danger due to the swinging of the line for some time and in the meanwhile the elephant died. In this context, DFO Kumar Nishant said that the elephant lost its life due to its head coming in contact with the electric wire. We had informed CSPDCL about this problem some time ago.
Financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh…
Families affected by wild animals will get financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh, the Forest Department official said, adding that the matter of elephant death is serious in itself. Further action will be taken along with investigation of the matter under the Wildlife Protection Act. Problems related to elephant products have persisted in Korba district for more than two decades. Over the years, people as well as cattle have died in different forest councils, while property has also been damaged. In cases of death due to wild animals, the government is giving an assistance amount of Rs 6 lakh to the families. Whereas provisions have also been made for crop and other losses.
