Bihar CM called all-party meeting

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will chair an all-party meeting today to discuss the results of the caste survey announced by his government on Monday. The meeting has been called amid speculations that Bihar’s ruling alliance may propose to increase the quota for backward castes in jobs and educational institutions in proportion to their population as per the caste census.

Counting of all castes done in Bihar

The caste survey enumerated all castes for the first time since independence and showed that backward communities comprise nearly two-thirds of Bihar’s population. Only Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) are counted in the decennial census of India. After the results of the survey came, CM Nitish Kumar said that all aspects of the caste census will be discussed and opinions of all parties will be taken. Further steps will be taken accordingly.
