Pune Road Accident: A road accident took place on Ahmednagar-Kalyan Highway in Pune, Maharashtra. Late Sunday night, a pickup van collided with a rickshaw, killing 8 people. The incident took place in front of a petrol pump near Kalyan Highway on Dingore-Pimpalgaon border. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced. Local people immediately informed the police about the accident. After this the police team reached the spot. Police carried out relief and rescue operations with the help of local people.

According to media reports, a pickup van carrying vegetables from Otur to Kalyan collided with a rickshaw coming from Kalyan to Otur. The driver, his wife, 2 children and another family member were sitting in the pickup. There were two passengers including the driver in the rickshaw. The collision was so strong that everyone died. These include five men, one woman and two small children. They have been identified as Ganesh Maskare, Komal Maskare, Harshad Maskare, Kavya Maskare, Naresh Namdev Divete and Amol Mukund Thothe. The names of the other two people are not known yet. At present, the police is investigating the entire incident and have sent the bodies of the deceased to the hospital for post-mortem.

According to media reports, 443,000 people were injured in road accidents in the country and the number of accidents has increased by 11.9 percent between 2021 and 2022. Most of these were caused by rear-end vehicle collisions or hit-and-run cases. The highest number of accidents have occurred in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. After this there were accidents in Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, there was a significant reduction in road accidents during the Covid period.
