Odisha Road Accident: A horrific road accident took place today on the National Highway of Odisha. 8 people died in this accident and the condition of 8 people is critical. Giving information, the police said that the accident occurred when the van carrying passengers collided with a truck parked on the roadside. The injured people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. At the same time, all the deceased were residents of Digapahandi in Ganjam.

Giving information on the accident, Keonjhar district SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagudu said that there were 20 people in the van, which was going from a village in Ganjam district to Maa Tarini temple in Ghatgaon area of Keonjhar district. The van collided with a truck parked on the roadside. The van was moving at high speed at the time of the accident. Due to fog the driver could not see the parked truck. Information about the accident has been sent to the families of the deceased. The concerned family members and relatives will reach the hospital soon.
The van was completely damaged. It is learned that the deceased belonged to two families of Podamari village in Ganjam district. Some of them are relatives of former BJD Rajya Sabha MP Renubala Pradhan. The injured were first admitted to Ghatgaon Hospital for treatment. After first aid there, he has been transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for further treatment.
5 percent increase in road accidents in Odisha this year
From January to September in the year 2023, there were 8,939 road accidents, 4,178 deaths and 7,898 injuries. There has been an increase of 2.84 percent in accidents in 2023 (January to September) as compared to the same period in 2022 and an increase of 4.89 percent in the death rate (January to September), while the number of road accidents in 2022 compared to 2021 has increased by 11,663 i.e. There has been an increase of 6.19 percent. Officials said that the death rate is increasing by 7.5 percent in 2022 compared to 2021.
