Nanded Deaths: In Maharashtra, the process of death of patients is not stopping for the last several days. After Naded, about 80 people have died in Nagpur in the state in four days. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court today pulled up the Maharashtra government over the deaths at Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Medical College and Hospital in Nanded. The court said that it is the responsibility of the state government to provide basic health and treatment facilities to the people. The state government cannot run away from its responsibility.

High Court made strict remarks

A division bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Arif Doctor took suo motu cognizance of the deaths in the government hospital in Nanded. Commenting, he said that how to strengthen the health system, everything is visible only on paper. The court told lawyer Birendra Saraf, appearing on behalf of the state government, that all information regarding the state’s budgetary allocation for health should be given to the court.

Advocate Birendra Saraf, appearing for the Maharashtra government, said that most of the patients were brought to the government hospital in the last stages. He said that there is a lot of pressure and shortage of staff in government hospitals and no one can be blamed for those deaths. Also, he also said that it does not seem that there has been any major negligence by the hospitals.

Many people have lost their lives so far

37 patients have lost their lives in Nanded hospitals from September 30 to October 3. According to media reports, 221 new patients were admitted to the hospital from 2 to 3 October. At present 823 patients are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Meanwhile, on Thursday, CM Eknath Shinde said that officials should visit all medical colleges, government hospitals, primary health care centers and submit reports.
