The Indian National Congress (Congress) has won the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023 with an absolute majority, defeating the government led by BJP leader Basavraj Bommai. Congress won 135 seats, while BJP won 66 seats. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday selected former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Samte, party leader Jitendra Singh and Deepak Bawariya as observers for the election of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Karnataka. The observers will attend the Congress Legislature Party meeting today and will submit their detailed report to the party high command.

Chief Minister’s face will be discussed

The Congress on Saturday made a spectacular comeback in Karnataka by ousting the BJP from its only southern bastion with a majority. An important meeting of the Congress Legislature Party will be held this evening, where the election of the CM will be decided. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar are both frontrunners for the chief minister’s post. According to media reports, the CLP meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm today and the newly elected MLAs have already been instructed to reach Bengaluru. These MLAs will be discussed deeply and if needed they can also be asked to vote to elect their CM.

Karnataka Congress Working President Ramalinga Reddy said that in every party someone or the other would have some ambitions. Also said that not only DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah, MB Patil and G Parameshwara are also strong contenders for the CM’s chair. However, only one leader will be made the Chief Minister and it will be decided by the party high command and the MLAs.
