India-Oman: Bilateral talks between PM Modi and Sultan of Oman, consensus reached in these areas

Oman Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik India Visit: Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman received a warm welcome in India. President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Sultan of Oman who arrived in Delhi. India and Oman also agreed to strengthen cooperation in 9 sectors including defence, energy and space. An agreement in this regard was reached between Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry of External Affairs said that India and Oman have signed all four agreements.

Israel-Palestine war also discussed

In the meeting between Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and PM Modi, other issues including conflict in West Asia were discussed. The two leaders discussed the situation in Gaza and humanitarian assistance. India has conveyed its stand against terrorism to Oman. Giving information, the Ministry of External Affairs also said that India has reiterated its stand that there is a need for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Foreign Ministry gave information

On the possibility of digital payments between India and Oman, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said that talks are going on between the two countries regarding the use of the UPI stack. UPI is a digital infrastructure that greatly simplifies the use of the financial payment system. Another element of discussion where we will try to move forward is the possibility of rupee trade, which could work between the two countries but it is still in the last stages.

Vinay Kwatra further said that discussions are going on between the two countries regarding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Although the negotiations on CEPA started recently, they have witnessed considerable momentum in the last few rounds and reflect the economic ties between the two countries.

Meaning of India and Oman relations

India and Oman share a historical, cultural and economic relationship that dates back more than 5,000 years. Diplomatic relations were established in 1955 and upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2008. Oman holds an essential position as India’s primary defense partner in the Gulf region, fostering strong defense cooperation. Let us tell you that India had also extended a special invitation to Oman to participate in the G-20 summit under the chairmanship of India. Oman’s active participation in more than 150 working group meetings and various ministerial meetings reflects the growing cooperation between the two countries on the global stage.
