DeepFake Issue: Sensing the danger of deepfakes on social media, the central government is working on alert mode. To control this, strict rules will be made and a series of meetings is going on. Meanwhile, Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar today said that an officer will be appointed to investigate content like deepfakes. These officers will monitor such content and resolve complaints within stipulated time.

Action will be taken against social media platforms

The Center will take all measures to prevent such threats. Along with fine, there will also be a provision for jail sentence on deepfake videos. He further said that the main job of the officer to be appointed is to keep an eye on such videos. The person publishing such deepfake videos will be detected as soon as possible. Within 36 hours, strict action will be taken against the accused person or his organization.

Chandrashekhar said that everyone will have to follow the rules set by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. In the digital age everyone has technology. But if anyone misuses it, strict action will be taken against him. Anyone making a deepfake video will be punished with a fine of Rs 1 lakh to 3 years in jail. Appointed officers will inspect it all the time. Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that on November 24, the Central Government has summoned online platforms including Google, Facebook, YouTube and warned that if they do not remove deepfakes from their sites, strict action will be taken against them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed concern about deepfake videos. The PM said that creating deepfake videos by misusing AI is a matter of deep concern. Modi said he has requested the ChatGPT team to send an alert if such videos are being circulated on the internet. He said that deepfake videos can create chaos in the society. Therefore, he appealed to the citizens of the country and social media to keep an eye on this matter. PM Modi also said that I saw a video in which I am seen dancing Garba. It seemed absolutely surreal.
