Cash-For-Query Row: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra today said that she will appear before the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha on Thursday, November 2, as per the order of the panel in the cash-for-interrogation controversy. He has posted a two-page letter on X. In this he has demanded to cross-examine industrialist Darshan Hiranandani. Mahua Moitra has also claimed that parliamentary committees have no right to investigate criminal cases. Only investigating agencies can do this.

Mahua Moitra posted a letter

Moitra wrote that the Ethics Committee thought it right to issue my summons to the media, so I feel it is important that I also issue my letter to the committee before my hearing tomorrow. The TMC MP said she wanted to put on record her desire to cross-examine Dehadrai and Hiranandani. Moitra said that if the Ethics Committee relies on any report sought from a department, it should also be given a copy of the document.

Moitra gave example of BJP MP

The TMC MP had requested for the date of summons after November 5, citing his pre-scheduled Vijayadashami programs. However, the Ethics Committee rejected it. Commenting on this, Moitra said that it was very surprising that the Ethics Committee rejected it. He cited the example of BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who was summoned by the Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha on October 10 over the hate speech row with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)’s Danish Ali. But later according to him he was allowed to appear.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey appeared earlier

It is noteworthy that Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Ananth Dehadrai have already appeared before the Ethics Committee in this matter. Both of them had presented their side along with appearing before the Ethics Committee a few days ago. Nishikant Dubey had attacked Mahua Moitra and said that she is a member of the IT Standing Committee, she should have read it.
