Arun Subramanian: US President Joe Biden has nominated Indian-American lawyer Arun Subramanian as the district judge of New York. With Subramanian’s nomination, he has become the first South Asian judge in New York. On Tuesday, March 7, the US Senate confirmed Subramanian’s nomination.
Subramanian is nominated as a Southern District Judge of New York after the Senate Majority Leader confirms his nomination. Subramanian was born in 1979 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents migrated to the US from India in the 1970s. Subramanian’s father worked as a control systems engineer in several companies. His mother also used to work. He graduated in Computer Science and English from Case Western Reserve University in 2001.
Subramanian earned his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in 2004. He is also a partner at Susman Godfrey LLP in New York where he started working in 2007. He also served as a law clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court of the United States from 2006 to 2007. Indian-origin Subramanian has so far taken up cases of trafficking in child pornography, false claims in public institutions and several individuals. Subramanian has helped secure over a billion dollars in payments for public and private entities.
