AB de Villiers: Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers recalled his blistering 66-ball 162 against the West Indies in the 2015 ODI World Cup. He also revealed that he was ill during that innings and was fast asleep before going out to bat. West Indies has been one of de Villiers’ favorite teams. De Villiers has scored 1279 runs in 24 matches played against the West Indies. During this he averaged 67.32 and scored four centuries and four half-centuries.

The former South African captain scored the fastest 150 against the West Indies in Sydney that day, helping South Africa score a total of 408 runs. At the same time, de Villiers said in the interview that he was ill on the morning of the match and could not sleep.
De Villiers tells that he told the coach, he is going to take a nap and will not practice for the match. De Villiers said “I’ll give you another example. We played a World Cup match against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2015. I was very nervous. It was a must-win match for us, but 3 in the morning: 00 o’clock I got sick in my room. I took injections and after that I couldn’t sleep. I reached Sydney Cricket Ground and I told the coach I don’t think I can warm up, I’m just going to take a nap ”

De Villiers said that what was more important for him that day was not to get stressed about the game and not to delude himself. The former South African captain said that he was half asleep and the ball looked bigger to him that day. He felt that everything was happening in slow motion. De Villiers said “I was sleeping before I went out to bat. But I have to say that cricket was more important than concentrating on the game and taking stress. I felt like I couldn’t play. I was quite happy that I Just could play. That took everything else out of the equation. I was seeing everything in slow motion that day and the ball was bigger.
