26/11 Mumbai Attack: India will never forget this date: 26 November 2008. The country is celebrating the 15th anniversary of this terrorist attack on 26 November 2023, but the countrymen still shudder remembering this day. It would not be wrong to say that this was the biggest terrorist attack in the history of independent India. 166 people, including 18 security personnel, were killed and more than 300 injured in the attack. The terrorists also weakened the claims of security by targeting the Taj Hotel, one of the safest places in the country.
This was the day when 10 Pakistani terrorists entered the city of dreams, Mumbai. Everyone was engrossed in their own tune. There was commotion in the markets. People were shopping. People on Marine Drive were enjoying the cool breeze coming from the sea. No one realized that death was moving towards them through this sea. As night approached, death started dancing on the streets of Mumbai.
Terrorists landed in Colaba at 8 o’clock
All 10 terrorists boarded a boat from Karachi, Pakistan and left for Mumbai. He entered Mumbai by sea. They captured an Indian boat on the way and killed everyone on board to escape from the Indian Navy. Using this boat, he landed at the fish market near Colaba at around 8 pm. Even the local fishermen were suspicious of him. He also informed the police about this but the police took it lightly.
The terrorists took taxis from Colaba in groups of 4-4 and left for their respective destinations. At 9.30 pm a group of terrorists reached Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal railway station. Everyone had AK-47 rifles in their hands and started firing indiscriminately. Ajmal Kasab was also included in these attackers. Security forces captured him alive and hanged him. As soon as information about the firing incident was received, the police reached CST railway station. There were also reports of firing in Vile Parle area.
NSG commandos took charge
That night the terrorists targeted many famous places of Mumbai. Taj Hotel, one of Mumbai’s world-class hotels, Oberoi Trident Hotel and Nariman House were targeted. Taj Hotel, which is called the pride of Mumbai, was destroyed by terrorists. The encounter between security forces and terrorists continued for four days. After this NSG commandos were called. NSG commandos killed all the terrorists. Due to his bravery, this crisis that befell India was averted. There was severe criticism of media ethics during this period as the Indian media broadcast the attack live for 60 hours. The terrorists got the benefit of this.
