In the year 1984, two of Indira Gandhi’s bodyguards killed her. After this there was a lot of resentment towards the Sikhs, which gradually turned into riots. A day after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, three people were killed in Pulbangash area. During this, Tytler was accused of inciting the mob to kill Sikhs. CBI had presented a report related to Jagdish Tytler in Delhi court in December 2007, which was rejected by the court and the CBI was ordered to re-investigate. The CBI gave a clean chit to Tytler thrice in the case, but the court in 2015 directed further investigation into the matter. The court said it will monitor the probe every two months so that every aspect of the case is examined.
