Microblogging platform Twitter removed Blue Tick from non-paying accounts just a few days back. Elon Musk had announced that now only users who buy Twitter Blue subscription will get blue checkmark. Under this, on April 20, the blue tick was also removed from the accounts of many Indian celebrities.
Now Twitter seems to be backtracking from its decision taken just a few days back. That’s because Twitter has reinstated the verified badge on several high-profile celebrity accounts. Many media organizations and journalists including Bollywood star Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan, cricketer Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, former US President Donald Trump, billionaire Bill Gates have also got blue tick back.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also got back the blue tick on his Twitter handle. He tweeted that he didn’t pay for it and asked- Mr Musk are you paying for me too? Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai expressed her surprise and happiness on Twitter at the reinstatement of the blue tick. Journalists in India such as Nidhi Razdan and Vishnu Som and former cricketer Aakash Chopra tweeted saying they did not pay for Twitter’s blue verification badge, which has now been restored to their accounts. big b Amitabh Bachchancricketer Sachin Tendulkar and many other famous people who have paid for Twitter blue ticks.
However, there is no official statement from Twitter on the reinstated blue tick. The company is reportedly restoring verified status for accounts with high followers. It is being said in the reports that Twitter is returning blue ticks to accounts with more than one lakh followers. The price of Blue Tick subscription in India has been kept at Rs 900.
