IFS Officer Training: Indian Forest Service (IFS) is one of the second top services of India. Recruitment in IFS is also done through UPSC exam. Every year, UPSC issues a notification for application in IFS. IFS officers are also given good posts in the forest department.

Like IAS and IPS, UPSC Prelims, Mains and Interview rounds are also conducted in the recruitment examination of Indian Forest Service. Besides, the opportunities to take the exam are also limited. General category candidates can appear for IFS exam 6 times and OBC can appear for 9 times, whereas, there is no limit for SC and ST category candidates to appear for the exam. After passing UPSC Pre, Mains and Interview, the candidates selected for IFS undergo two years of training.

Where does IFS Officer Training take place?

The training of Indian Forest Service i.e. IFS officers is organized at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun. The name of this institution was Indian Forest College till the year 1987. This institution was established in the year 1938 for the training of senior forest officers. It is on the campus of Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.

Qualification for IFS Officer

To become an IFS officer, the age of the candidates should be minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years. Candidates belonging to reserved categories are provided relaxation in upper age limit as per rules. In the educational qualification, you should have a graduation degree in Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology, or Agriculture, Forestry.

The pay scale of Indian Forest Service officer ranges from Rs 56,100 to Rs 2,25,000 lakh. Apart from this, many types of allowances and facilities are given to IFS officers.
