Many popular stories are heard about Bhimkund, one of which is that the Pandavas were passing through a forest during their exile in the Mahabharata period. At the same time Draupadi felt thirsty. Then the five brothers went out in search of water, but even after searching a lot, they could not find water anywhere. Then Dharmaraj Yudhishthira reminded Nakula that he had the ability to detect even the water located in the depths of Patala. After listening to Yudhishthira, Nakula meditated touching the ground. Nakul came to know at which place water would be found. However, even after finding the source of water, the problem remained as to how the water would be extracted from the earth.

That’s why the kund is called Bhimkund

When Draupadi was distraught with thirst, Bhima raised his mace and struck at the place indicated by Nakula. Due to the attack of Bhima’s mace, holes were made in many layers of the land and water was visible. But, the water source was still about thirty feet below the surface of the land. In such a situation, Yudhishthira told Arjuna that now you have to make a way to reach the water with your archery skills. Hearing this, Arjuna put arrows on his bow and made stairs to the water source with his arrows. Draupadi was taken to the water source by the steps of the bow. Now because this kund was made of Bhima’s mace, hence it is known as Bhimkund.
