The district administration has invoked Section 144 of the CrPC and banned the assembly of four or more people till June 19. Even no shops will open. Hindu organizations today announced to hold a Mahapanchayat at Purola in Uttarkashi district. Meanwhile, several vehicles of people trying to attend the mahapanchayat were stopped by the police administration at Nowgaon, about 20 km from the town. After this they sat on the road and started raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram and Hindu unity. Keshav Giri Maharaj, the founder of Yamunaghati Hindu Jagriti Manch, has been arrested by the police. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that instructions have been issued to the police and administration to maintain peace and law and order in Purola area. We have asked everyone to maintain calm and not take law into their hands. So far, the administration has taken action on all the incidents. The CM said that if someone is guilty, he will be punished according to the law. No person is allowed to take law in his hands.
