The name of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh will soon be changed. The proposal to rename Aligarh as Harigarh has been passed. Aligarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Prashant Singhal says that this proposal has been passed unanimously by all the councilors. He told that if this proposal is approved by the government, then soon Aligarh will be known as Harigarh.
Mayor Prashant Singhal said that a meeting was held yesterday, in which a proposal to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh was presented. All the councilors have passed this proposal unanimously. In such a situation this proposal will be sent. He expressed hope that the administration will take cognizance of this proposal and approve it. He told that the demand to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh was being raised for a long time.

According to media reports, if the name of a city is to be changed, then first a proposal is passed from the municipality or municipal corporation. After this this proposal is sent to the state cabinet. If the state cabinet passes this proposal then a gazette with the new name is issued. After this the city is recognized by the new name.

Aligarh is known for its locks. Along with this, there are many tourist places including Aligarh Fort, Jama Masjid, Baba Barchi Bahadur Dargah, Shekha Lake. Organizations demanding to rename Aligarh as Harigarh say that if Kol can be renamed as Aligarh, then Aligarh can be renamed as Harigarh. These organizations say that we want to get rid of the names of slavery. That’s why we know our city not as Aligarh but as Harigarh.
