Lok Sabha Election 2024: Congress candidate in Rajasthan refused to contest elections, said- eligible and interested candidates should be given a chance.

Lok Sabha Election 2024: Congress candidate refused to contest elections from Rajsamand Lok Sabha seat in Rajasthan. A letter has been written to State President Govind Singh Dotasara asking him to return the ticket. Congress Party’s Lok Sabha candidate Sudarshan Singh Rawat said that a suitable and interested candidate should be given a chance in his place.

Sudarshan Singh Rawat said that I had told him not to contest elections from Rajsamand a month ago. I had also requested the high command. That I will not contest elections. The Congress Party had declared Sudarshan Singh Rawat as its candidate by releasing the list on March 25 itself. He returned the ticket on Wednesday. Whereas in Rajasthan, elections are to be held in the second phase on 26th April.

Letter written to Dotasara
Sudarshan Singh Rawat has written a letter to Congress State President Govind Singh Dotasara. In which he wrote that he has been made a candidate without my consent. However, Rawat has also mentioned about winning the election from Bhima on Congress ticket in 2018 and the work done while being an MLA. He wrote that it was my personal opinion that despite historic development work, I did not have the moral right to contest the Lok Sabha elections just four months after the defeat in the last assembly elections, nor did I have any strategic preparation to contest the elections.

Any eligible and interested candidate should be given a chance
He further wrote in the letter that I received the news of declaration of the candidate through social media on the evening of March 25, which was a matter of complete surprise for me. I request the top leadership of the Congress Party to give a chance to some capable and willing candidate in my place. If this step of mine might have hurt the sentiments of supporters, well-wishers and party leadership, for which I apologize.

BJP fielded a candidate from the royal family
BJP has fielded Mahima Singh from Rajsamand seat. A large vote bank in the Rajsamand seat honors the royal family of Udaipur. Therefore, this political reality is also being considered as the reason behind Rawat’s withdrawal of candidature. However, Rawat did not present any claim regarding the ticket.
