Tension increases between AAP and Congress in Punjab
Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Punjab is taking place amid tension between the two partners of the India Alliance, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The state’s main opposition party Punjab Congress has expressed displeasure over the arrest of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in the 2015 drugs case. Congress has accused Bhagwant Mann-led AAP of taking political revenge in Punjab.
On Saturday, a Punjab court had ordered to send Sukhpal Singh Khaira to judicial custody for 14 days. The police had initially sought remand for 7 days, but the judge rejected the demand after reviewing the evidence. At the same time, Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party said that it is independently investigating the matter.
