Manpreet Badal Corruption Case: The Punjab Vigilance Department has issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) to former Punjab Finance Minister and BJP leader Manpreet Singh Badal in connection with irregularities in the purchase of a property in Bathinda. Besides, an alert has also been issued at the airport. The Vigilance Department team suspects that Manpreet Badal may leave the country and flee abroad. The Vigilance Department team has registered an FIR against 6 people including Manpreet Badal.

What did Vigilance Department officials say

Vigilance department officials said that BJP leader Manpreet Badal has not been arrested yet, hence it was necessary to alert the airport so that he cannot leave the country. He further said that Manpreet Badal was rarely seen politically for the last two months and there was no trace of him. The residences of his close relatives are also being monitored by the Vigilance team.

Case registered under these sections

In case of irregularities in the purchase of property, an FIR was registered against him under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, besides the Information Technology Act. The Vigilance Department had raided his residence in Sri Muktsar Sahib district yesterday. Apart from Badal, names of Bikramjit Shergill, Rajeev Kumar, Amandeep Singh, Vikas Arora and Pankaj are also mentioned in the FIR. Manpreet Badal has already filed a pre-arrest bail plea, which will be heard on September 26.

Who filed the complaint?

The complaint against Manpreet Singh Badal was made by former Bathinda MLA Sarup Chand Singla. However, Manpreet Badal was then a minister in the Congress government and Sarup Singla was the leader of Akali Dal. Later Sarup Singla joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Also, Manpreet Badal also joined BJP. After the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government, an FIR has been registered in this matter.
