After the retirement of the then DGP Vivek Johri, many names were in the news. The state government had given the responsibility of DGP to 1987 batch IPS Sudhir Saxena in March last year. Senior Special DG from Saxena was Purushottam Sharma. However, the investigation against him was going on. That’s why the state government made the senior most IPS Saxena the DGP. Sent the panel to UPSC in May. The selection committee of UPSC has approved the name of Saxena. For this rule, the then DGP of UP Prakash Singh had filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the posting of IPS officers and for police reforms.
