Police will pay off 22 years old loan of 800 crores, churning on two cabinets for funds

Bhopal – The state government has started the exercise to repay the loan taken 22 years back. The intention of the government is to repay the loan of Rs 800 crore in one go. For this, the Home Department had sent the proposal to the cabinet twice. At present, churning is going on to repay the loan amount. The government had taken a loan from HUDCO to build houses for manual laborers across the state.

It was only after getting the loan from HUDCO that the construction of state police houses was expedited. After this, police houses continued to be built. The police headquarters had taken a loan of about 800 crores. The state police has so far built about twenty thousand houses for police officers and jawans with the help of this loan and the budget received from the state government. In which most of the flats were made of high rise buildings. At the same time, loans were also obtained from HUDCO for some police buildings. Now preparations are being made to repay this entire loan. After the loan, Chief Minister Police Housing Scheme was started in the state. In this, the target is to build 25 thousand houses for policemen. In about five years, about 12 thousand houses have been built for the policemen under this scheme. Some construction is going on there.

Rs 260 crore sought in supplementary budget

To repay the loan of HUDCO, the Home Department had also asked for funds in the supplementary budget. Apart from the Home Department, other departments had sent demand reports. However, the state government had made it clear that funds would be released in the supplementary budget only for schemes of public interest. This is the reason why in the budget, the state government had announced to make a provision for the fund to repay the loan of Rs 260 crore. For this, the consent of the cabinet is necessary. After which the proposal has been sent to the cabinet twice. Due to some shortcomings, instructions have been issued to the department to prepare the proposal again.
