Bhopal. Beyond wall paintings and clothing, Gond art is now being used on products as well. Dindori Collector Vikas Mishra is making special efforts to take this art to every house, once out of reach of the common man. He says that till now this art is very limited, but to make it accessible to the common man, work is being done to connect the youth with it. Apart from connecting the youth with this art, other products are also being prepared. Among these, shoes made mainly from Gond painting are the most prominent.

Choices being made around the world:
These shoes made in MP are being liked a lot in the country and abroad. This is the reason that due to the efforts of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the Union Ministry of Commerce has given GI tag under Industry Promotion Internal Trade. 161 artists of Patangarh are engaged day and night in making them. These artists are now earning their livelihood on the strength of their art. These artists are united in Jabalpur and engaged in fulfilling the orders received from all over the country. Apart from shoes, canvas paintings, products are being made to decorate doors, windows, cupboards and center table tops.

What is Geographical Indications Tag:
The ‘Geographical Indications of Goods’ was implemented in 1999 under the Registration and Protection Act. On the basis of this law, the legal right of a specific item found in any region of India is given to that state. Like Banarasi saree, Mysore silk and now the Gond art of Dindori is protected under this law.

Jangarh spread Gond art all over the world:
Jangarh Singh Shyam is given the credit for making Gond art recognized worldwide. In 1984, at the age of 17, Jangarh Singh Shyam met for the first time with the famous artist Jagdish Swaminathan. Actually Kala Kendra Swaminathan was roaming from village to village to bring artists to Bharat Bhavan. Suddenly his eyes went to the artefacts of Lord Hanuman built on the tribal houses in Patangarh village of Dindori. From here the journey of development of Gond art started. With continuous hard work, Gond art began to appear in art museums in Japan, Britain, Germany, France and America. At the same time, three artists Durgabai Vyam, Bhajju Shyam and Venkat Raman Singh Shyam have also received the Padma Shri award for their special contribution to Gond art.

Cheap products will be made:
Gond paintings are very expensive. The cost of a wall painting is around five thousand. Now this painting has reached the common man. Efforts are being made regarding this. Especially preparing to make mobile covers and hand bangs. Tribal youths are also being given training in making Gond paintings.
