Actually, a 38-year-old woman resident of Bhopal had undergone cesarean delivery thrice. When the woman became pregnant for the fourth time, the three-month-old fetus stuck to the stitches previously placed in the uterus. After examination in Hamidia, considering the age of the woman, the doctors decided to perform uterine artery embolization procedure instead of removing the uterus.

Dr. Bharti Parihar of the Gynecology Department said that a radiology expert was consulted for this. After examination, he did MRI of the woman. The investigation revealed that the blood vessel supplying blood to the woman’s uterus had deteriorated and had bunched up at many places. This is what was causing the bleeding.

Dr. Ankit Shah told that a path was made from the thigh till Vaisal. The blood supply was stopped where the clot had formed. After this procedure the woman can become a mother next time.

Procedure takes place in cathlab

Dr. Parihar said that this procedure cannot be done in a normal operation theatre, it requires a state-of-the-art cathlab. We performed the procedure in the cathlab of the cardiology department.

First case in government hospital

According to Dr. Parihar, in case of bleeding, usually the uterus is removed. Even after this, many more operations are required. This is not the case in this technique, the entire procedure is done with just a small incision. He told that this is the first time when this procedure has been used in a government hospital.
