Bhopal. The Commercial Tax Department has busted the racket of making fake bills by the businessmen doing bullion business. With the help of the data command and control center of the department, illegal bullion trade worth Rs 375 crore was detected during the last 6 to 8 months. Action is being taken by the department after closely examining more than 400 analytical reports available on BIFA/Gain, e-way bill and GST portal.

Under the direction of Commercial Tax Commissioner Lokesh Kumar Jatav and Special Tax Commissioner Rajni Singh, it was found after intensive data analysis from the businessmen involved in the trade of high value commodity ‘bullion’ that through an organized network of bullion (gold and silver) in the state, their private GST registration has been obtained on the documents of employees such as domestic servants/drivers or other persons. Along with this, the documents of these employees have also been used to open bank accounts.

Bullion was purchased in large quantities from registered traders after obtaining GST registration. After that, these bullions were told to be sold to private consumers in small quantities by issuing fake bills. In the first phase, 7 suspected bullion traders identified by the department were found to be doing bullion related business of about Rs 375 crore in a period of 6 to 8 months. All this bullion was also said to be sold to private consumers during this period.

Campaign will continue against bogus taxpayers

Under the direction of Commissioner Lokesh Kumar Jatav, search action was taken on suspicious firms under the GST Act. In this action, no commercial activity was found to be conducted at the business places of 6 suspected firms of Satna, Katni, Jabalpur and Chhatarpur. Due to cancellation of registration by a firm, the search operation was not done. Around 724 kg of bullion was traded by these suspected firms.

Bogus taxpayers are being identified under a special campaign by the department for the purpose of strong action against suspected/bogus taxpayers involved in revenue protection and fake invoicing. A team in the Data Command and Control Center by the Commercial Taxes Department is only doing the work of data analysis.
