Bhopal, After Gulabo, the oldest living bear in the country, male bear Leo has died at the age of 22 in Van Vihar. According to Van Vihar officials, Leo died on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday due to old age. Leo had been ill for a week and had stopped eating and drinking. It was being treated by the doctors of Van Vihar. According to the doctors, Leo had become weak due to old age and many of his organs had also stopped working, due to which he died. Leo was brought from Bihar in 2008.

Gulabo died last year

Earlier, on January 11 last year, the country’s oldest bear Gulabo died at the age of 40 in Van Vihar. In May 2006, at the age of 25, Gulabo was brought to Van Vihar after being freed from the captivity of a madari. Gulabo also died on the intervening night of Sunday-Monday. Gulabo was a major center of tourist attraction. According to wildlife experts, the average age of a bear is 20 years. Gulabo lived to twice her average age.

Bears are brought to Van Vihar after being saved from Madaris

Van Vihar has also been made a center for the rescue of captive bears in Madaris and Circus. Currently 25 bears were living in the Bear Rehabilitation and Breeding Center operated here, out of which Leo died. In this center those bears are kept who have to undergo inhumane treatment in the circus.
