Hisar. Former state minister and the country’s richest woman Savitri Jindal joined the BJP on Thursday along with former Hisar mayor Shakuntala Rajiwal and supporters. The BJP had on March 24 made Savitri Jindal’s son and former MP Naveen Jindal its candidate for the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat. After this, there were speculations about Savitri Jindal joining the BJP. After meeting the workers at his residence in Hisar on Wednesday, the former minister had announced his decision to quit the Congress on social media and also hinted at the same. Savitri Jindal entered politics after her husband Omprakash Jindal died in a plane crash in 2005. She was elected as an MLA of Hisar Assembly for two consecutive terms from 2005 to 2024 and also served as the Minister for Local Bodies in the Hooda government. In the presence of Prime Minister Nayab Singh Saini and former Prime Minister Manohar Lal, former minister Savitri Jindal declared his membership of the BJP on Thursday.

Savitri Jindal’s name is ranked 56th in the list of billionaires in the world.
The Jindal family plays an important role in Hooda’s coronation
The Congress had fought the 2005 assembly elections in Haryana under the leadership of former chief minister Bhajan Lal. After securing a majority in the elections, the Congress appointed Bhupendra Hooda as the state’s chief minister in place of Bhajan Lal. Industrialist and then Congress leader Omprakash Jindal played an important role in making Bhupendra Hooda the chief minister in place of Bhajanlal. Soon after the formation of the Hooda government in 2005, Omprakash Jindal and Surendra Singh, son of former chief minister Banshilal, died in a plane crash. After this, Surendra Singh’s wife Kiran Chaudhary entered active politics of Haryana from active Delhi politics. Savitri Jindal entered politics only after the death of her husband Omprakash.
He also joined the BJP along with the former mayor
BJP members also include Seema Jindal and Jagdish Jindal from the Jindal family. Shakuntala Rajliwal, who became mayor of Hisar Municipal Corporation by holding the finger of the Jindal family, also quit the Congress along with the former minister and joined the BJP. Former Congress district president Ved Rawal, former deputy mayor DN Saini, Gulzar Kahlo and many former MCs and others also joined the BJP.
