Karnal: Toll workers beat up truck drivers at Bastada toll plaza. The incident is said to have occurred late on Sunday evening. Truck drivers report that there was an argument between truck drivers and toll workers over the load, which later turned into a fight. Truck drivers accused toll workers of illegal recovery in the name of congestion. The police were not informed until late at night. Police arrived at the scene and began investigating the case.

Incidents of toll personnel attacking vehicle and truck drivers at the Bastada toll plaza are commonplace. Late on Sunday evening, toll officials stopped three transport company vehicles coming from Laldu in Punjab on suspicion of overloading. At the toll booth of all three vehicles at the fork, one vehicle was found to be overloaded by around one quintal. But despite sufficient loading with other vehicles, the toll staff beat up the truck drivers. The truck driver claims that toll workers are illegally collecting Rs 500 per truck in the name of overloading the tracks. When he didn’t pay the toll, the toll workers beat him and even tore his clothes. In addition, they also broke a truck driver’s cell phone during the attack. The entire incident was reported that night by calling 112. As soon as the information was received, police arrived at the spot and began investigating the matter.

The same toll officer Ashish says that most truck drivers pass through the toll plaza in the dark of night with overloaded vehicles and when they try to stop them in the vehicle, they get into arguments with them. During the night, toll staff stopped three tracks and one truck was overloaded. He described the allegations that the toll staff had attacked the truck driver as unfounded. Investigating officer Daljeet Singh said that there was a dispute between the toll workers and the truck driver at the Bastada toll plaza over an issue and the matter was brought to the notice of the police. As soon as the information was received, the police were on site and began investigating.
