Kaithal: In the Rs 10,618-crore VAT scam that took place in the state 13 years ago, the government has now taken comprehensive action against five senior officials of Kaithal district. The investigation by the SIT formed by the Lokayukta has begun punishing the guilty officials. Let us tell you that between 2010 and 2014, there was a large-scale sales tax evasion scam worth Rs 10,618 crore in the state. Satbir Kichhana, a resident of Kaithal, lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta in this regard. Subsequently, based on the complaint, Lokayukta constituted a 14-member committee headed by IPS Shrikant Jadhav to investigate the matter. This also included officials from the Excise and Taxation Department. When the SIT investigated, it was found that the government excise department officials had themselves caused loss of revenue worth crores of rupees during road checks. 100 percent tax evasion was also found in commercial activities of builders and contractors. The investigation revealed that Rs 1 crore worth of taxes are evaded in the state every day. Highest levels of tax evasion have been recorded in the NCR area due to commercial activities. In this, major builders and builders in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat, Kaithal and Karnal had committed the tax evasion fraud. The collusion was also uncovered by excise department officials.

On January 14, 2015, the SIT submitted its 345-page report to the Lokayukta.

The scam was investigated by a 14-member committee headed by IPS Shrikant Jadhav. This included DSP of Police Department and DETC to AETO of Excise and Taxation Department. It took about a year for the investigation to be completed. The inquiry committee prepared a 345-page report and submitted it to the then Lokayukta Pritampal. It clearly stated that a tax fraud of Rs 10,618 crore had taken place in the state from 2011 to 2014. Sixty-nine excise officials were also found guilty. A case was registered against him under the Corruption Act and a recommendation was made to take strict action and redressal. This recommendation was received at the Lokayukta Office on January 15, 2015 under diary number 213.

The government fired two DETCs after their retirement

In the SIT formed by Lokayukta, 69 Haryana officials have been found guilty, out of which action has already been initiated against three officials. As per the orders of the Principal Secretary, orders were passed for dismissal of Major Jagjit Singh, DETC (now retired) and Anil Rao, then DETC (now JETC retired) in the case of M/s Sunder Marketing Associates Bhiwani. Let us tell you that now both the officers were retired but in the SIT investigation report both the officers were found guilty. Thereafter, the department had charged her under Rule 7. Letter written to SP to register FIR against two including former DETC

The office of Deputy Commissioner of Excise and Taxation has filed a complaint with the SP against former DETC of Kaithal Kamla Chaudhary (retired), RK Nain DETC Karnal and Atma Nand Malik AETO (retired). Complainant Raghuveer Singh Ravish said he had lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta in 2014. On this basis, the government has now taken these first measures in Kaithal and Bhiwani districts. The government should also take similar measures in Gurgaon and Sonipat.
