Kaithal: A dispute arose between the Gurjar and Rajput communities over the statue of Gurjar Samrat Mihir Bhoj on Kurukshetra Street. In such a situation, the police had to resort to mild lathi attacks and tear gas grenades to stem the angry youth of Rajput society. After that, the crowd dispersed. At the same time, the police turned the entire Kurukshetra Street into a quarters so that disputes would not arise again. However, the situation remains tense.

DC Jagdish Sharma had been reassuring the Society members for some time but the Society members dispersed and moved on, breaching the police barricade from Kaithal’s new bus stop towards Dhand Road. The police had taken extensive precautions to prevent the accumulation of people in front of the police cordon. When the crowd joined the police, the police had to use mild lathi charges. The police also fired tear gas grenades. The police detained the malicious elements by having them sit in the lane’s already prepared bus vehicles.

The people of the Rajput community expressed great anger at the removal of the word Gurjar from the idol and demanded its removal. The same people from the Gurjar community had said that this was their story and that they would not delete the word Gurjar from their ancestors’ names.

DSP Lalit Kumar, Umed Kumar DSP and Inspector Amit Kumar stayed where they were and kept telling people to leave. Tehsildar Amit Sidan and Ashish Kumar were present at the court as judges on duty.
