Kaithal: Additional District and Session Judge Dr. Gagandeep Kaur Singh’s court sentenced a man convicted of raping a 14-year-old minor to 20 years in prison and a fine of 20,000 rupees. In addition, it was noted that in the event of non-payment of the fine, an additional penalty of four months will have to be served. The court ordered that compensation of Rs.4 lakh rupees would be awarded to the victim via DLSA.

The victim’s father had registered a case at Pundri Police Station on August 29, 2021. DDA JB Goyal, who is representing the case on behalf of the prosecution, quoted the FIR as saying that the applicant’s daughter fell asleep after dinner on the night of August 28, 2021. Other family members also fell asleep. During the night itself, his daughter took out all her papers, clothes and 2000 rupees that she kept in the house and went somewhere. When the applicant went to wake his daughter in the morning, he found that she was not in bed. When he looked around and inquired, it turned out that the accused Kuldeep, alias Kuli, had also not been at home since yesterday. When asked about the accused’s family members, it was said that the porter was not known.

It was alleged that the porter kidnapped his daughter on the pretext of marriage. As a result of this complaint, the police have initiated proceedings against Kuldeep under the POCSO Act and other sections. The police arrested the accused and brought him before the court. This is where the victim’s medical examination and counseling took place. The police prepared the challan and presented it to the court. A total of 20 witnesses were brought forward in the case. After hearing both sides and considering evidence and witnesses, ADJ Dr. Gagandeep Kaur found Kuldeep guilty in his 43-page verdict and sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand rupees. The defendant is already in jail for failing to get bail.
